Sue is passionate about people, believing that each person has a unique set of abilities and talents that can be discovered and nurtured. Thus enhancing their daily personal functioning and wellbeing. Her aim is not to solve a person’s problem but to assist a person in discovering their own strengths and developing coping mechanisms that work for them. I believe in creating authentic connections with each person providing a safe, trusting, non-judgmental space where you can be your true self. Together on this journey, we discover tools and self-understanding that assist with self-empowerment developing strategies to overcome adverse situations and challenges that may seem impossible or unbearable.
She has worked at the Victim empowerment Centre with SAPS for many years and has assisted children and adults with bereavement counselling; trauma; divorce and behavioural problems resulting from violent crime; sexual abuse; family violence and physical abuse; bullying depression and suicide. Where pathologies manifest, clients are referred to either a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist).
Sue works from a person-centered model focusing on strength-based solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy and mindfulness. She works with individuals, couples, and groups, and offers in-person counselling or zoom counselling sessions.
Sue has a BA in psychological counselling and a Bachelor of Social Science Honours in Psychology (BPsych Equivalent Programme). She is registered with the Health Professionals counsel of South Africa and the Board of Health Care Funders.
